THE SCREENWRITER'S JOURNAL

ASPIRATIONS
About Me
Hi! I'm Nathan. I am a graduate of Creative Writing and a postgraduate of MRes Media. My passion is screenwriting, and I aspire one day to write and produce a feature-length screenplay. That may be some time away, though, so let me first outline a little about who I am and why I got into writing.

I first started writing in the summer of 2017. Strangely enough, up until this point I had always preferred STEM subjects, particularly favouring maths and science over subjects like English or geography. The only humanity that was of any interest to me was history, in which I could engross myself in stories from the past.

In fact, I liked history so much, I started developing my own fictional worlds with their own fictional histories. I won't go into detail about these worlds here, but I believe it was this that lead me onto the path of screenwriting.

I had always loved movies, perhaps for the same reason as I loved history, but I had never considered actually writing them. Nevertheless, one day I decided that I wanted to write a story inside one of my worlds, but being wary of prose, which I believed to bit too flowery for my liking, I began writing in screenplay format.

I'm happy I did, too. The form appealed to me and I have been writing in it ever since. I've even ventured into writing prose, realising that a more direct and impactful style of writing was often more effective than the endless description I thought it had to include.

So here I am. I have learned a lot in the past few years, but there is much much more to learn in the upcoming ones. Come follow my journey of discovery, learning off each other as we go, in the ultimate (very long) pursuit of perfection!
